working for the co-op
by jc. 10/03/10.
And so it was born. Yes, Mr John Herring, Salford born 'n' bred singer/songwriter decided to set up The Salford Music Co-operative in a bid to bring together all the people/organisations/musicians of Salford that are involved in one way or another with music.
So in a cluttered corner of
The Crescent huddled several individuals who answered the call: Musos, journos, promoters and enthusiasts.
So what is it all about? Here's Mr Herring's thoughts on what
the SM Co-op could or should be:
* Somewhere that would bring together musicians,
bands, venues,
studios, radio stations, rehearsal spaces, photographers, film makers,
journalists etc...
* A project which could look at making the most of the venues within
Salford so that musicians within Salford could turn the city into a hub
of
musical performance
* A place where we could begin to book 'speakers' to talk about
issues within industry
to arm those of us working hard to make our way
through it with invaluable information
* An opportunity to share contacts, knowledge and experiences with
one another instead of fumbling around in the dark (which is only fun in
certain situations!)
* To bring the musical talent together to invest back into the
community of Salford by playing events such as the recently aired
Salford
Festival, the Amber Project Party in the Park, Sounds from the Other
City
etc... whereby we have an ongoing influence on the communities we hail
from
and involvement in the festivals based in Salford
Those are just some of the ideas that John came up with. If you would
like to get involved in any way then you can contact John
HERE. Or you
can contact me direct HERE.
The next meeting of the Salford Music Co-operative is at The Crescent on
Tuesday April 13th at 6.30pm.
