Jam Night at The White
Horse.
Normally, salfordmusic
is sat on its backside watching
Muslim
Driving School on a Tuesday night but now we don't have to-
'cos The
White Horse in Eccles now host an Open Mic/Jam night.
It's on every other Tuesday night in the main bar and is hosted
by the very affable
Phil Ratcliffe,
local music
virtuoso and guitar slag. We popped down there last Tuesday and
had a whale of a time. First up were Pyjama Party, an
electric-ukulele-driven funk trio (I kid you not, fair reader),
which features the varied talents of
Aidan Smith,
Kev Rodgers from
Thingumabob &
the Thingumajigs and some other bloke whose name I didn't
quite catch. Highlights of the set were probably "Granddad's
Bike" and the set-finisher "Handyman".
Next up were Celtic Vibes (or at least three-fifths of them) who
knocked out a couple of trad-sounding Irish numbers. In fact,
they were on and off so quick that I didn't get a chance to take
a photo of them. That one you
can see on the right is just nicked off
their Facebook page. Oops. Sorry folks.
And then the jam began- led by Scottish Salfordian
Calum Gordon on
keyboards,
Maxwell Watts on bass and
the aforementioned Mr Ratcliffe. Various people got
up and joined in and much musical fun was had by all.

It was all really relaxed and anyone who wants to get up and
knock out a song is welcomed and encouraged.
Hats off to Alex and Phil at The White Horse who are
putting some real effort into generating live music in the area.
The next Jam night is on 23rd February and
every two weeks after that. Smart.
