Gods Gift from the past.

Gods Gift: Pathology
An American label called Messthetics has released a compilation of the Salford post-punk band Gods Gift. The compilation is called Pathology and features 17 tracks from the group's back catalogue from 1979-1984. Our personal favourites are Jacqueline's Admission and Nico- real thought-provoking stuff and a true antidote to modern polished production techniques.
Gods Gift were formed by two Salfordians, Steve Murphy and Steve Edwards, who were both employed at Prestwich Psychiatric Ward, and I think it's fair to say that their immediate surroundings had a profound effect on their music.
salfordmusic recently got in touch with Steve Murphy to see if he could source us any Gods Gift photos for the archive and his reply just about summed up Gods Gift's attitude to self-promotion.

"Sadly, there are very few photos of the group as we hated having them taken and when we 'finished' it was a race to rip them up. We never felt the need to do what most groups did/do and have loads of photos of themselves. Also as, in various guises and at various times we were all working with Home Office controlled inmates at Prestwich Hospital so photos never really fitted into the scheme of things."
A truly refreshing attitude.

The release of Pathology has caught the attention of the major press too, with a cracking review of the CD in The Times (03/01/10). According to Murphy this is:
"A major coup for us particularly when we were so hated in our 'prime' - It would have been nice 25 years ago though."
