POP SCENE with Trevor Baxter
SALFORD CITY REPORTER 18th
MAY 1984
PUNK IS STILL ALIVE
You may think punks and punk music was a thing of the
past but, judging by the appearance and music of Demented Ambition they are
flourishing in the middle of Pendleton.
Walking down Langworthy Road you may have heard
strains of their music filtering through the windows above the co-op. That
is their present rehearsal room though the band are looking for more
suitable premises.
The line up is: Steve Mcginn (bass), 16, Neil Howard
(Guitar), 17, Anthony Labrey (Drums), 17, and Stephen Leigh (Vocalist), 18.
They have been together about four months but several
members have had experience with other shortly lived outfits. They write
their own material but also cover the likes of G.B.H. and Sex Pistols.
Demented Ambition’s present goal is raising funds to
spend some time in the recording studio. With Steve Mcginn at school and two
others on youth training schemes they have little cash to spare. It costs
£48 for an eight hour session.
They may never
make the big time but I wish them luck
