Cleveland - John Kilby & Paul Swindells

Formed from the remnants of Code of Arms in 1987, Cleveland began life as a two-piece recording outfit. John Kilby took charge of all drum and percussion duties (as well as being chief chippy and A1 music runner) and Paul Swindells did everything else. They were soon to have a flexi-disc pressed up for the front of an edition of Dave Haslam’s seminal magazine, ‘Debris’. However, being a non-gigging duo proved to be restrictive, and by 1991 the line-up had expanded. There were several line-up changes over the next couple of years; members included Frank Roper, Tony, Jeff, Steven Heywood and Simon Jolly. The band gigged extensively and recorded a couple of demo’s at Starlight Studios in Manchester.

Cleveland eventually got a record deal, flew to New York and recorded an album, though the record company went into liquidation before the record could be released. The band split in the early 1990’s.
