a brief history
salfordmusic.com was founded in 2005 by Paul Wallworth as a way of collecting and archiving information about Salford bands and musicians.
Most of this information was collated by scouring through the past editions of the Salford City Reporter (as far back as the early 1950s) held on microfilm files in the Salford Art Gallery and Museum. All the music-related items were then painstakingly scanned and included on the archive as a way of building the framework of Salford's musical heritage.
In March 2008 Paul decided to expand the idea and the website by using it as a way of promoting current Salford bands, singers, musicians, venues and recording studios. This was done by enlisting the help of Jon Coupe who has written for the website ever since.

our objectives
The aim of the "Salford Music" brand is to help promote Salford's musical talent in any way we can. This is done by advertising upcoming events, writing reviews on bands, gigs, CDs, demo tapes etc.
In our bid to spread the word we have also moved into other areas of the media: salford music produces regular TV programmes on Salford Music TV and also produces a weekly radio show on Salford City Radio dedicated exclusively to the music of the city of Salford and its musicians. We also produce regular newsletters that are distributed throughout various venues in the city.
We also aim to get more people in Salford involved in the project. Various people have helped us along the way- especially with Salford Music TV but also with contributions to the website, the newsletter and the radio show. We are more than happy to include input from anyone on our varied forms of media- if you are interested in helping out- then please email us HERE.
salfordmusic.com is a completely voluntary and non-profit making operation. Unfortunately.
NB: Paul and Jon are both failed Salford musicians. |
